Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust

What did we do?

We’ve worked together with the world-class Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust (MSLT) for five years. The MSLT portfolio is world-class, with Manchester Aquatic Centre and 10 community leisure centres that are vital to local life in our beloved city. Add to this the facilities at Sportcity and the MSLT stable stands proud with 18 unique sports facilities across the region. In 2007 we were appointed as the sole agency provider of branding, design and marketing and we're really proud that our relationship has flourished over the years and we've been there every step of the way.

We started with a new logo with an Olympic feel to provoke an inspirational reaction. We created a new strapline: 'from grass roots to greatness'. This conveys the message that the facilities cover everything from community to Olympic-standard training centres and can develop sporting talent from beginners to word class - all in just five little words.

What did we achieve?

We furthered the online marketing directive with the creation of various email marketing campaigns. And just six weeks after our SEO specialists got their mitts on the MSLT website, the number of visitors to the site reached an all-time high. The purpose of the initial SEO campaign was to increase the number of visitors to the swimming, gym and membership sections of the Trust's website. Within one month, figures for visitors to the swimming page alone were up by 155.76%.

Over the years we've created and executed all sorts of marketing campaigns that have provided tangible return-on-investment across all of the centres. Our 'swim for free' for the over 65's and under 16's; 'tighten your assets' (a personal favourite of ours!), was targeted at students to encourage them to join a gym and 'feel good' to encourage membership sign up. 

We also created the definitive brand guide, colour palettes and fonts and spread these across every piece of in-house collateral. By which we mean every single piece of internal graphic design: the artwork in the gyms, the wall graphics, the information panels, stationery templates, emails... you name it, we’ve done it and all with a big dollop of pixel8 style on top.
