Electricity North West

What did we do?

Electricity North West owns, operates and maintains the North West’s electricity distribution network. It connects 2.4 million properties and more than 5 million people in the region to the National Grid.

Electricity North West's network covers many of the North West regions from isolated farms in rural areas such as Cumbria, to areas of heavy industry and urban populations including Manchester.

In January 2012 Electricity North West was developing a regional campaign called 'Switched On' to discover the thoughts and opinions of local residents within the North West regarding the future of our electricity infrastructure. We were asked to produce a logo for the 'Switched On' campaign and a 'Switched On World' that could be recognised across all media channels.

What did we achieve?

Pixel8 designed and illustrated a 'Switched On Pop Up' World' to demonstrate the North West region and how electricity is generated to our homes from the National Grid to power football stadiums, street lights, local communities and schools. This was all shown in the 'Pop Up World' we created. This was then applied to the 'Switched On' website, brochures, leaflets, t-shirts and posters. It was simple yet effective and began to give the Electricity North West brand a unique identity.

Since we created the 'Pop Up World' for the 'Switched On' campaign we have been asked by Electricity North West to create a character mascot that they could take to local schools and roadshows to inform school pupils and local residents about Electricity North West. So we illustrated a fun character called 'Edison'. Edison is an energy bulb with legs and arms and a light-up head, great for capturing the attention of school kids learning about electricity.

Due to the success of the Switched On campaign and the mascot Edison, Electricity North West asked Pixel8 to re-fresh their current brand to feature the Switched On World and Edison. So we did this by introducing a more vibrant colour palette, friendlier fonts and evolved the Switched On Pop Up World.  Electricity North West consider the campaign to be such a success that it is now currently being rolled out across all internal and external marketing communications.
