Pixel8 team up with Eastlands Trust to Launch #MCR2Rio in Celebration of the 2016 Olympics

The Olympics in Rio is shaping up to be one of the biggest events occurring on the 2016 calendar, and we were more than happy to assist when one of our clients came to us for some Rio marketing and graphic design assistance!

Eastlands Trust oversee a range of sporting centres in Greater Manchester including, but not limited to:

  • The National Cycling Centre

  • The Manchester Tennis and Football Centre

  • The National Basketball Performance Centre - Located on Belle Vue Sports Village

  • National Squash Centre & Manchester Regional Arena - Located on the Etihad Campus

All of the above centres want to celebrate the Rio Olympics in style with live screenings of their relevant sports, as well as the opportunity to dress up and take some photos to promote the event on social media alongside an exciting competition.

Here at pixel8, we came up with the hashtag, and then we designed all of the collateral to support it.

We decided to go with the colours of the Rio flag with yellow, blue and green being the main focus of our designs. Not only are these fun colours to play with, they also ensure that the designs pop out at anyone visiting the centre.

Eastlands required social media graphics, graphics for their photo backdrop in their ‘Fan Zones’, designs to surround their viewing screens, and also a design for the photo frame for social promotion as can be seen below!

The idea behind this is to encourage people to dress up and post their photos with the hashtag for a chance to win an Olympic taster session of their choice!

The results are already taking shape as we collect the entries on Tint, and we’ve even got local radio station KEY 103 involved too.

We’re really excited to see how the event gets on over the next few weeks. And remember, if you’re in Manchester and fancy getting involved, take a look at the showings. The National Cycling Centre is the centre is the one with the big screen, although a lot of the centres have dedicated Fan Zones and will be screening their sports on regular sized televisions.

If you like, you can find out about the Cycling Centre showing times right here.

We hope you find the time to head down over the next few weeks and cheer Team GB on to victory!

Update: Now that the campaign has come to the end, we've published a juicy case study right here. We achieved some amazing results in two weeks including making 7.3 million social media impressions! Be sure to check it out
