Hilton Hotels & Marriott International Top List of World’s Biggest Hotel Chains
Organised according to number of rooms and hotels, Hotels has succeeded in putting together a fascinating snapshot of just how much the leisure industry has grown in the last 12 months alone.
But what really makes this new survey interesting is Hilton Hotels, which has finally managed to overtake Marriott International as the biggest hotel chain in the world. There have also been several surprise entries into the magazine’s top 50 - including from brands that have recently emerged from China and the Far East.

Hilton Hotels and Marriott International
Having amassed an incredible 715,062 hotel rooms in 2014, Hilton has achieved the seemingly impossible and surpassed competitor Marriott International - who has added (an equally impressive) 714,765 hotel rooms in just 12 months.
In addition to IHG (710,295), this holy trinity of hotel brands stand above competitors by a significant margin. For instance, Best Western International also managed to squeeze into the top 10 with a comparatively few 303,522.

Growth in China
On the most interesting developments to emerge from this study, however, was the growing presence of China on the world’s international hotel stage.
Both Plateno Hotels Group and Jin Jiang Hotels made it into the top 10, with Plateno jumping an impressive five spaces in just 12 months. Equally as impressive, Eastern Crown Hotels Group China - which did not feature in 2014’s Hotels edition - has leapt into 38th position.
Thanks, in part, to the growth of China’s middle class economy, the increased volume of hotels in the Far East is a strong testament to the renewed optimism within the hotel sector.
