From Google's Mobile First Index To Dashboard Inspiration - It's Time For Pixel8's Weekly Trends

It’s been another week of exciting, and some potentially challenging trends this January.

Below we cover Moz’s Guide on how to get the best links in the eyes of Google, Dashboard designs that web developers will love, and even how Google are planning on using your mobile website to decide your website’s rank on their search engine.

This is one Pixel8 weekly trends that you won’t want to miss.

1. LinkedIn’s Sponsored Post Series

Running sponsored social media posts is a challenge for any marketer to get right. Linkedin appreciates this which is why they’re hosting a 14-day series about how to run successful sponsored content on their platform.

They’re on Day 12 at the moment, but if you’d like to head back to the beginning of the series then all you need to do is click here. It’ll help you to craft your most effective piece of social sponsored content so far.

2. Moz’s Google Links Guide

Every Friday, SEO specialists Moz release a video under their ‘Whiteboard Fridays’. Each one features one part of SEO, and this week it’s how to get good links in the eyes of Google.

There’s been a lot of confusion over this lately, with no follow links flying out left right and centre - websites also get punished if the links look like they've been paid for. But if you want to know exactly what you need to do to get those links that Google favours, then take a look at the video.

3. David Bowie

We’re big Bowie fans in the Pixel8 office, and we think there’s not one single artist better at creating ‘brands’ the musical legend. From the Thin White Duke to Ziggy Stardust, Bowie is known for his ever-shifting personas, and that’s why he’s a designer’s dream.

To celebrate his birthday, and also to look back at his sad passing, Digital Arts Online have pulled together a collection of all the best designs created to honor the man himself. It’s an " target="_blank">inspirational slideshow to take a look through, and could influence the style of your next graphic design project.

4. Dashboard Inspiration

Call all web developers, web design news website Noupe have published a delightful blog for those looking for dashboard inspiration.

The main function of a dashboard is to allow businesses to better deal with their internal data. If designed poorly, dashboards can affect the performance of a company and make the day to day life of employees more frustrating, so these platforms are incredibly important.

If you’re looking to design one in the near future, be sure to check out this collection of 20 inspirational boards that will leave you inspired to create a stunning design.

5. Google’s Mobile First Index

Is your mobile website not up to scratch? Well if not, now could be the time to panic. Google have started to index websites via mobile first, so if you have links on desktop that aren’t on mobile, or perhaps your mobile is slow with a bad user experience, you could find your Google rankings drop.

You can read more about it in this article from, but if your mobile website needs some work then we suggest that you take a look at it now before this becomes Google’s main way of indexing every website online. You wouldn't want your Google rank to drop simply because mobile was neglected when compared to desktop.
