Emma's First Few Weeks at Pixel8
Here at pixel8, we love welcoming new members to our working family - and this week we've had the pleasure of adding graphic designer Emma to our ranks!
As usual, we decided to pose a few questions to her to see how she's getting on so far. So if you'd like to find out exactly what it'd be like being a graphic designer here at pixel8, be sure to read on.
How have you found your first week working at pixel8?
Lovely! Everyone is fab and has made me feel very welcome!
What attracted you to graphic design when you were first starting out?
I’ve always wanted to be a designer, ask my mum! In primary school I wanted to be a fashion designer and then at secondary school an interior designer. As I matured and started to take my design more seriously I started to take a keener interest in graphics and I’ve never looked back really . . . apart from every weekend when I’m designing the interior of my own house!
Do you have any graphic design idols?
I have lots of designers that inspire me, one of which has to be Peter Saville. As a music lover growing up in Manchester I’ve admired his work from a very young age. As a designer, I love to work with typography and creative ‘Typographics’ which has to be a direct inspiration from the great Herb Lubalin.
Who's your favourite pixel8 employee so far?
Hhmm… well that’s a tricky question! Despite bribes (ahem Mesh!) Everyone has genuinely been so great in my first week. The design team especially have been really helpful and welcoming, making me tea and showing me the ropes!
What've you been working on since you started?
We’ve been working on a few projects for Hilton Hotels, promoting some exciting up-and-coming events.
I’ve worked on a couple of logo designs for Silver Bay Holiday Village and the Trafford Housing Trust as well as some colourful infographics for the Art’s Council.
What are you looking forwards to most during the next few months at pixel8?
I’m looking forward to settling in and becoming part of the great pixel8 team. I’m really excited to start some more projects and get to know our impressive clients and their campaigns.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
What can I say . . . I love music and enjoy spending an evening watching new music in one of Manchester’s many gorgeous, independent venues. I’m pretty crafty in my spare time, enjoying paper craft and creating personalised stationery and framed prints. I’m also quite partial to a spot of furniture refurbishment and enjoy interior design and decorating. I love spending time with my friends and family and feel a Sunday is best spent eating and drinking with your favourite people.
Stay tuned in the future if you'd like to see some of Emma's work. We like to post case studies showcasing the amazing work our talented designers get up to!
